As a child, my grandmother would always force Fresh Ginger tea on me at night. This was tea she had made by boiling water and dropping in the Ginger that she purchased at the green grocery and allowing that to boil. She felt that having ginger in my diet was important and I didn't quite understand why, now that I am older I have a better idea of why she wanted me to drink the ginger tea at night and that is because ginger has many healing properties. Ginger has been used in history as a plague medicine and was used  to treat people that were infected with the plague. However, I think what my grandmother had in mind was to use ginger for its effectiveness as a digestive aid. Because ginger has been known to relieve indigestion, gas pains, diarrhea and stomach cramping which as a child I had a lot of this for many different reasons. Over the years, I found out that ginger has also been used to treat nausea related to both motion sickness and morning sickness, and because I sometimes get migraine, headaches off and on and do not always like to take medication I found that ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that help relieve pain and reduce inflammation. If I drink a cup of ginger tea during the on start of a migraine and then lay down I find that my migraine goes away in less than a half hour. Other uses for Ginger include the treatment of asthma, bronchitis, and breaking fevers, removing toxins from the body, cleansing the bowels and kidneys, and nourishing the skin.  In addition, I found that I could purchase instant ginger and honey tea from the green grocery so knowing all of this I find myself indulging in a cup of ginger tea periodically. I think my grandma would be so proud of me if she was still alive to know that I have added ginger as a permanent part of my diet.
